The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative is a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to encourage and recognize hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for lactation. As of March 2012, there were 143 hospitals in the US who met the program criteria, which are based on Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.
As of February 2011, the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) had designated 442 hospitals (763 surgeons, up from last year) as Bariatric Surgery Centers of Excellence.
