Statistical Abstract 2012: Health Utilization, Expenditures, Diseases

US Census Bureau's National Data Book presents statistics on health expenditures and insurance coverage, healthcare workforce, injuries, diseases including 5-year cancer survival rates, disability status, nutritional intake of the population, and food consumption. Average hospital cost per day in 2009 was $1853, or $10,043 per stay (tables 173 & 174); average cost per state is shown. See Health and Nutrition section. Abstract is no longer updated after 2012

American College of Sports Medicine lists findings from their worldwide survey of fitness trends for 2015. Survey sent to personal trainers and other health fitness professionals; 12% response rate (more than 3000 responses). Body weight and high-intensity interval training were the top 2 trends. American Hospital Association (AHA), 150 pages+, published 2015. See Chart 1.29 for 2014 operating margins of insurance company giants Aetna, Anthem, United HealthCare, Cigna and Humana - compare to managed care plan average of 4.7% (2014) or 5.7% 2013 hospital operating margin. Overall health expenditures reported at 17.4% of GDP in 2013. Very helpful charts, though examine the scale carefully. No reference to healthcare quality trends. Most charts contain 2013 or 2014 data
