AMA Calls for Halt on Prescription Drug Advertising to Consumers

AMA called for a stop on advertising prescription drugs, directly to the consumer. The United States and New Zealand are the only developed countries that permit direct to consumer (DTC) advertising for prescription drugs. The American Medical Association (physicians) notes that Direct-to-consumer advertising inflates demand for new and more expensive drugs, even when such drugs may not be appropriate. November 2015
