MRSA Bloodstream Infections have been declining in healthcare settings, but still account for significant mortality. According to the CDC MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report), there were almost 120,000 MRSA infections in 2017. The in-hospital mortality was about 18%. Published March 8, 2019. Additional, but older, information is available in AHRQ Statistical Brief #35 Infections with Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) in U.S. Hospitals, 1993–2005 (published in 2007). The statistical brief analyzes 2004 hospitalizations and costs at a time when there were 300,000 or more MRSA infections per year.
