Find a sleep medicine specialist. These are physicians (MDs and DOs) and PhDs who were certified in 2006 or earlier, by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM). It is a lifetime certification that does not expire. They have passed the exam, and displayed a comprehensive understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. Note, the site states: “Doctors certified in sleep medicine during or after 2007 were not certified by the ABSM.
