Texas Pediatric Heart Surgery: Complications and Survival Rates

Compare complications and survival rates for pediatric heart surgery at Texas hospitals. The 2016 report shows complications (but not mortality).  View the 2014 report for survival rates. Hospitals typically report mortality rate rather than survival rates. Average risk-adjusted mortality rate for the state was 3.35%. Texas Childrens was at 1.67%. Of the eight Texas children’s hospitals listed in 2014, one hospital (Texas Childrens at Houston) had both the highest volume for pediatric heart surgery, and the lowest risk adjusted mortality rate. On the other hand, Cook Childrens showed significantly higher mortality (worse survival) at 6.56%. Volumes (number of cases) are also shown for each hospital.
