Maine – Average Cost for Hospital and Doctor Visits (2020-2021) Editor's Pick

Find the average cost for both hospital and doctor visits in Maine in 2020 to 2021. These “costs” may be less than charges or prices, since they are what 35 commercial payers actually paid for the service in the 12 months ending March 31, 2021. Compare costs at different clinics and hospitals. Average cost for an ER visit in Maine was $604 for a moderate severity emergency department visit (before adding lab, imaging and other tests). A high severity visit (code 99284) to the ED cost $1,029 before other test costs were added in. Average vaginal delivery costs (median payment) was $16,451 for Childbirth delivery and 60 days of related care. This was up 15% from the prior year. (Does include physician care, but probably not newborn charges). An uncomplicated C-Section averaged $24,257, up 8%. Find costs for other surgeries by hospital, such as hip or knee joint replacement, arthroscopy, colonoscopy, hernia repair, tonsillectomy and gall bladder surgery. Find many median (middle) payments here physician office visits ($116 average cost for 15-minute appt for an established patient 99213), CT, MRI, x-ray, lab tests and more. A one hour crisis psychotherapy visit averaged $218. An ongoing 60 minute psychotherapy visit (90837) cost $100 on average. Uses CPT codes. All “average cost” figures are actually median payment. MinuteClinic price list gives cash prices for hundreds of services or tests, many priced in the $99 to $139 range. MinuteClinic is owned by CVS Pharmacy. Some clinics are inside Target stores. Published list prices range from $99 to $139 for strep throat, plus $35-$45 for the strep throat test. Rapid Covid test is $120 or $149; $69; seasonal flu shot $50 or $74; Vitamin B12 injection $35; pregnancy test $25 (pregnancy evaluation is $89 plus test costs). Other prices include costs for Sport physicals, bug bites, skin rash, ear wax removal ($99-$139, possibly per ear); A1c checks, Shingles vaccine $179, urinary tract and bladder infections (up to $139); flu test for influenza A & B $70 to $100; monitoring or treatment for high blood pressure or high cholesterol; one-time medication renewal $99 to $139; HPV vaccination at $261 each; and many more. VT Hospital Physician Office Visit Prices 2022

Compare what hospitals in Vermont were charging for physician office visits in 2022. For example, code 99213 averages $162 for the physician. Since hospitals may charge an additional fee, the total charge in the state was about $240 per visit.  Fees ranged from $69 at Copley’s physician groups and $98 at Northeastern VT Regional Hospital to $866 at North Country) for an established patient code 99213. Code 99214 average price was $311. New patient prices also shown. If non-hospital medical groups exist in VT, their fees are not shown. The state and its hospitals seem to be back on track with their reporting, after relaxing their rules during the pandemic.

Walmart Dallas, Georgia Self-Reported Prices

Walmart’s Dallas, Georgia store 3403 reports 2019 prices for primary care office visits ($40), common lab tests ($10 for A1C), counseling ($60 for new patient intake), dental services ($75 to $125 for a filling) and optometry services ($45 for routine vision exam). Prices are listed for 10 medical services, 8 dental, 2 each in counseling and vision care. Applies only to the clinic Health and Wellness Destination in Dallas, GA. X-ray, EKG and hearing tests are reportedly offered at the clinic, but prices are not shown.  Effective Sept. 11, 2019.
